It seems this discussion group is off and running! It appears that it is already meeting the needs of many. Just this past week I was in a middle school and the assistant principal had read the discussion threads for the previous 2.5 hours and was poised to download portions of the discussion for his general education teachers; could we ask for more? This opportunity to share with families and professionals alike within an online format is akin to one-stop shopping. You are able to get many answers to your questions in one place. Families of persons with autism spectrum disorders have amazed me for years; the ingenuity and ability to persevere (like you have a choice) has always garnered my immense respect. This opportunity to share these creative ideas is welcome to other families and educators alike. While I will be happy to entertain all reasonable inquiries, I am willing to make the ‘flavor of the month’ challenging behaviors and positive behavioral supports if that would be of interest. Do not feel constrained, by any means, but know that I would welcome such a focus. |
The purpose of the "Online Discussions in Special Education" is to provide a platform for parents and school staff to share information, support and expertise in all disability areas. The Online discussion topics will be changed monthly. All discussion transcripts are saved to the archives. During the month of October 2006, the Online discussion addresses “challenging behaviors and positive behavioral supports”, and is moderated by Dr. Glenis Benson, a well known and respected Wisconsin autism consultant.
