My hope for the Internet Discussions focusing on Autism Strategies is that everyone involved will be able to get some new ideas and share ideas that are already working.  I would like the participants to share the experiences they have had with successful strategies in both the home and school settings.  In addition to this there may be strategies that have not worked for you or the person with ASD you work or live with; however it may be helpful to someone else.

I would like people to share the benefits as well as the hardships they may have experienced with different strategies and models.  These may include the TEACCH, Floortime, ABA, DIR, or other models.  The strategies do not have to be from one of these models and could be a simple visual someone has found successful.  There are no “rules” as to the type of strategy you share.

I hope we can keep this site positive and help one another with ideas.  Questions or concerns are welcome and hopefully through collaboration everyone will take away some new ideas!

The purpose of the "Online Discussions in Special Education" is to provide a platform for parents and school staff to share information, support and expertise in all disability areas. During the month of September, 2006, we will host an online discussion on autism strategies/interventions at home and/or at school, to be moderated by Amanda Reinke, CESA 7 autism consultant. The Online discussion topics will be changed monthly. All discussion transcripts are saved to the Special Education Online Discussion archives.
